I have to plug usb controllers out and in before starting mame so that mame detects controllers, this problem only existed for me maybe a year now here is output verbose of controller not working the a working verbose output following

Ok, that shows that SDL itself isn't recognizing the controllers. That's really strange.

Other emulators work when this happens though, presumably ones that don't use SDL?

yes i have no problems with snes right now, and Mame started to do this maybe a year ago, also im using Pclinuxos as OS

R.Belmont do you have any suggestions for me to try and fix this?, it was fine about a year ago , I have been doing make -j5 to compile but havent changed anything in makefile, i used to change a few options in the makefile like a year ago maybe this is part of the problem?
