One thing of significance about CCS 7710, a MC6850 ACIA card I recently added to MAME as an Apple II bus slot option, is that it's one of only three serial cards Personal Software's VisiTerm program was designed to work with. VisiTerm, however, is nowhere to be found in the Apple softlists.

Serial cards weren't really a thing when I did the original softlist, and Firehawke's been concentrating mostly on 4AM's output, which has largely been games and educational stuff.
I do want to add more productivity stuff eventually. Also, now that you can attach soft lists to expansion cards without blowing up the sun, I need to do some of those.

I was reading up on the apple iigs history today and saw a mention of an easter egg where on a ROM 3, you press control-option-openapple-N but I couldn't get it to work. (from duxburysystems.org:) A feature that was added to the ROM 03 firmware that was entirely fun, instead of functional, was accessed by a specific key-sequence. If the computer was booted with no disk in the drive, a message that said "Check startup device" appeared, with an apple symbol sliding back and forth. At that point, if the user pressed the keys "Ctrl", "Open Apple", "Option", and "N" simultaneously, the digitized voices of the Apple IIGS design team could be heard shouting "Apple II!" Also, the names of those people would be displayed on the screen. The problem stemmed from my keyboard that isn't n-key rollover and the RALT key combined with the N won't register properly with all the other keys down. Just remapping the option key from RALT to RWIN allowed me to hit all the keys necessary to hear the "Apple II!" shout. (CTRL+LALT+RWIN+N) (screenshots below)

-snapsize 704x462 gives more legible IIgs screenshots, FYI.
And yes, that's William D. Mensch, 6502 co-creator credited as "Mensch". And Owen Rubin is *that* Owen Rubin, who programmed the arcade games Space Duel and Major Havoc at Atari and Goalie Ghost for Bally/Sente before he joined Apple.

Yeah, I keep forgetting to specify snapsize on the command line. 8-) "Apple II!"

Hi rfka01, I did some reading on the ZX printer and I think I understand it a little bit. I'll give it a try, it doesn't sound that complex (famous last words 8-) heh heh

There's some additional info on the Basis 108 on the German VzEkC forum, user j.s.com is working on a Basis 108 emulator The Basis has slots 2-7 for expansion cards. Slot 1 is part of the mainboard, as is the C100-C1FF ROM. This ROM contains the drivers for the serial and parallel interfaces, which are addressed as slot 1 and 9. The monitor up until AppleSoft and a DOS patcher make PR#9 work. [...] it's just 256 bytes which are completely listed on four pages in the manual [...]. Every Basis 108 has this ROM inside, even without any expansion cards installed, even the cut-down version which only had a 2K monitor ROM". "This is the "Slot 1" ROM from the Basis 108 as a hexdump, typed in from the manual." C100: 20 62 C1 90 28 48 21 48 48 A5 39 C9 C1 D0 15 68

1. There is no 256 Byte I/O ROM and no 2 K firmware ROM, but instead 256 Bytes of I/O RAM
2. There is no autoincrement when reading or writing data.
This gets the Basis 108 RamDisk software running. It's not clear at this point, if the 256 bytes of I/O RAM are part of the normal 256K of the card.".

I'm in contact with a person who has a "Diagnostic Disk controller" for their Basis 108. What are the commands to save the 4K EPROM of the card to the floppy disk from Apple DOS?
