Hi, I just realized that -nothrottle - while speed set to 1.0 and waitvsync is enabled - would provide me perfect scrolling on Mac SDLMAME. But -nothrottle disables sound. Is there a way to activate sound while running -nothrottle?

Example: mpatrol - notoriously the side scrolling has severe hickups no matter what. With -nothrottle, the game may run with 105%, but absolutely smoothly. But without sound.

Many thanks for any ideas.

It shouldn’t disable sound by default. That’s a UI option that needs to be enabled. Start MAME without a system specified so you can get into the options menu to change it, or check your ui.ini file (usually found in ~/Library/Application Support/mame on Mac or ~/.mame on Linux).

Thank you so much! Indeed, I had changed the option unthrottle_mute in my ui.ini file, for whatever reason. I just did not find it. This now provides absolutely perfect scrolling, many thanks!

EDIT: This is really interesting. By combining waitvsync with nothrottle, I am completely getting rid of the motion judder described for MacOS in the MAME documentation. The only additional tweak required by some games is a reduction of the speed to 0.99 (e.g. Xevious) to get rid of audio crackling. Finally, after so many attempts, flawless scrolling in MacOS!
