/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lgl

i get this error on pclinuxos when compilation is nearly done using any kernel , i do have the gl libraries installed not sure the problem causing this

You don't have the development GL libraries installed. MAME is known to build fine on Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, and Arch. We can't support smaller distros ourselves, you'll have to ask your distro's support how to make that happen.

Im sure i have those files installed, must be a reason that the compile isnt seeing them

That reason must be something specific to your distro. Once again, you need to take this up with people who use your distro and can help diagnose your issue. It works on all the mainstream Linux distributions, as well as the three BSDs, macOS, and MinGW’s Linux-like virtual root on Windows.
