hi,

i just aatempted to play around with mame software entries inside the buildin mameui.

what i tried is:

after starting mame without any commandline parameter the mameui pop up. then i just entered a800 in the search and several atari 800 models appeared in the list. so i choose atari 800 (pal) and the contents of the software list showed up.
no matter which of the files i select from that list gives me anything but this.

in my mame.ini i have the following path configured.

#
# CORE SEARCH PATH OPTIONS
#
homepath .
rompath roms;software

where in my roms folder is the main mame roms and inside the software folder is the various software list roms seperated in own folders. in my example a800.

if i do the same thing on the command line,

./mame a800

i can select an entry from the software list in the tab menu and the file starts.

so my question is what am i doing wrong to make this work properly from within the mameui aswell?

thanks in advance for any hint

can you launch it with -verbose parameter and see what mame is trying to open when you choose an entry?

you can also launch with -rompath parameter, for example:

./mame -rompath "roms;/mnt/z/mame/roms;/mnt/z/mame/MAME 0.250 ROMs;/mnt/z/mame/MAME 0.250 Software List ROMs"

hi,

starting mame like this from the shell
./mame -rompath "roms;software"
solves the problem and i can start all the a800 titles.
but i pass exactly the same through the commandline parameter which is already in my mame.ini.
is this meant like this ? or does the ui require the path information in some other config file ?

even if it works this way im still a bit puzzled.

No, the -rompath is correct. If other settings in your mame.ini work you either have a typo in the rompath in mame.ini or you need to use full paths (C:\MAME\roms on Windows, /home/(you)/MAME/roms on Linux/Mac) instead of just "roms").

UPDATE

hi, ok im just meh.

after figuring out why everything works while passing the rompath i figured out i had a nice pretty old a800.ini dated back some years ago with ofcourse now totally outdated path information.
after getting rid of all those old .ini files and changing mame.ini to writeconfig = 0 everythinf ofcourse works like it should.

thanks people for giving me the hint i was missing smile
