The Atari 2600 emulator Stella has been updated to version 2.2. This has a huge number of improvements which you can read about here (including the return of the file browser!). You can also leave comments for the programmer on that forum, too. Stella is available for download here.

Incredible. What are the keyboard shortcuts for this? No readme for instruction on operation re. keyboard shortcuts. Right now, Stella is stuck in full screen mode all because I made the mistake of not writing down the keyboard shortcut (I assume one exists) to get the screen back to normal before I checked out the full screen mode. General (expected) controls don't seem to work. A good emulator , but incredibly user-unfriendly. :dead:

I want to find a way to get back to normal screen and see the menu bar. Tab just cycles through Quit, Options, Go up and Next. There are no instructions that tell me how to do this.
I guess the author still has some work to do but it ought to have been included in the readme

ah - hit TAB while running a game. You'll get the video options then.

hmm.... i tend to agree... LOVE the emulator but the interface bites. I would so much rather have normal open/save dialogs or something that resembles that. The built-in file browser is slow and hard to read the text. I dont' know if they're going for a look that you would have had on a TV at that era of gaming, or if its because of some cross-platform library issues.
I had the same issue and somehow accidentally figured out how to get the menu back and get it running in a window again.
On another note... I had thought that the Epyx game (i think it was epyx) Spelunker was available on the 2600... but can't find any info indicating that was the case. I have a pretty complete set of 2600 roms but nothing there either. Was this just for the C64, NES and beyond?
Magneto phone!? This is not a magneto phone!!

I can't find any indication of Spelunker ever making it to the 2600. Epyx only released Summer Games, Winter Games and California Games for it.
As for the Stella interface, yeah, it leaves a lot to be desired, but it seems to be a necessary side-effect of simultaneous PC/Mac releases (and it's much better than 2.1). Also, Stella is designed so custom front-ends can be built for it, if someone wants to invest the time to do it.

What happened to compatibility from 1.2 to 2.2? The only commercial games that work for me are Adventure, Asteroids, Pac-Man, and Yar's Revenge. Everything else either has a black screen or, if I use the Stella.pro file, a black screen with audio noise. Surely I MUST be doing something wrong here.

I haven't changed any of my ROMs in an eternity, so I don't know why yours wouldn't be working.
Do they have a .bin extension? Zip files aren't supported.
Try re-downloading a few of the ones that aren't working from AtariAge, and see if that helps. If not, try dumping the Stella prefs.
Can you list a few of the titles that aren't working?
