hi, i got a cd with lots of neo geo roms however all of them arent recognized
for example, samurai showdown 4 is supported (as says the rom list of mac mame)
i rename the file to samsho4.zip as the FAQ says, then i try to convert the file using Mame Converter 2.5, but the program says unknown file tipe
so, i try doing the same by decompressing the rom file, and dragging the folder in the converter, then the converter says not enough memory no matter how much memmory i asign to it (macos 9) even with 100000mb it says its out of memory
and of course, if i drag the folder uncompressed or the file as a zip, with the name changed to samsho4 wich is the correct name in the list, i get the same error of game not supported
any ideas? im very frustrated

ok now this is even more crappy
i decided to download from another site samurai showdown
itought maybe all the roms from the cd were damaged (wich is kinda stupid but i tried it anyway)
well this time the game was recognized and seems it loaded, but now i get the erorr wich says the rom files (the bios) arent there
and i got in the rom folder the 4 of them named as
neo-geo.rom
ng-sfix.rom
ng-lo.rom
ng-sm1.rom

but still mac mame cant recognize them
any ideas frown
damn im sad about this

you need neogeo.zip, the cd probably contains old versions of the roms. some of them have been badly dumped over the years, which AFAIK they have been sorted out now.

What version of MacMAME are you running? MacOS X or 9 (sounds like 9)? What converter? The Super ROM file is not used at all anymore. MacMAME uses simple zip files with the rom files stored within. Be a little more detailed please.

ok
finally i could make one game run, wich i downloaded (that samurai showdown)
the problem is that the files had to be in 1 file called neogeo.zip
well...i searched for that file (because if i tried to zip the folder myself neogeo didn recognized it at all)
im on MacMame version 0.66.2 on macos 9.2.2

well i searched the web for more BIOS because all the rest of the roms i have downloaded (from a lot of different pages) just doesnt works, u know what i mean, no matter what i do it doesnt works
currently i found this BIOS roms
neogeo.zip
skns.zip
playch10.zip
decocass.zip
samsho4.zip
cvs.zip
pgm.zip

i readed in the troubleshooting part of the faq this
"If you are missing "5b.bin" or "82s185.10h", then you will need the file "cvs.zip"."

then i downloaded and have it on the roms folder that "cvs.zip". file
anyway, when i try to open ANY room escept for that samurai showdown rom i get the following errors, for example, when i open king of fighters 99:
251-sma.bin
251-p1.bin
251-p2.bin
251-c1.bin
251-c3.bin
251-c4.bin
251-c5.bin
251-c6.bin
251-c7.bin
251-c8.bin

and when i try to open metal slug 3 i get

256-sma.bin
256-p1.bin
256-p2.bin
256-v2.bin
256-c1.bin
256-c2.bin
256-c3.bin
256-c4.bin
256-c5.bin
256-c6.bin
256-c7.bin

so, i get an error of lacking .bin files, but i have the cvs.zip file in my rom folder, with the exact name, and the roms with the exact name of course
i have tried many roms from many sites, and rom files from a cd wich worked on a pc's friend...and i just cant get it to work, im so pissed man...i have beeen hours looking for the roms in crappy banner pages then hours trying to make them work and nothing

0.66 is ancient and the ROMs it requires are far out of sync with any version someone's likely to be using on a PC.

Arbee's right in that 0.66 is old but that's probably the last version to run on OS9. It doesn't help any that the Neo Geo games have gone through several rom updates since then and finding a NG game that is still compatible for that version is slim. You're best bet is too upgrade to Mac OS X if you can.

The unofficial builds of MacMAME continued to support OS9, MacMAME 0.81 Unofficial+ was the last (I think). I'm not sure what happened after that, the bookmark I had for their web page is dead, they must be available for download somewhere out there.

Well, I was looking through some old CDs and I found the Unofficial 0.72 Plus version. I thought I had 0.81 somewhere.
