Yup. My Dell LCD has a pivoting base so I can play vertical MAME games "correctly" any time I want. It's great.

The Samsung LCDs have that feature too.

My 172x doesn't. Wah!

Neither does my Samsung 172T. Samsung make a very wide variety of monitors with different features. The 172X is designed to have the fastest response in their lineup. The 172T is designed to have the best contrast and colour rendition. Neither of them are available in a pivot or touchscreen configuration.

Well, the 191T on my floor does...

The 191T is based on a different panel to the 172T and 172X. It's faster than a 172T and has better colour than a 172X. It's the "average" panel. It's also available as a touch-screen, and with an integrated TV tuner and a few other configurations.

just rotate a regular 4:3 ratio monitor for that or other verts. i have a 27" tv on its side if i want to do that.

are there any vert games that used something other than a rotated 4:3 monitor to display on? guess that cinema display setup would be cool for punchout, but i cant think of anything else.

Any Radeon card with ATi's "VersaVision" technology can do this, actually. It's an available feature on my 9800, handled through the ATi Displays preference pane. With a VESA mount and a Cinema Display, you could get some serious monitor rotating action going on.

The Contra games are tall ones, too.
