My use of AdvanceMAME has been primarily the ability to set resolution choices for game, resolution and frequency, or just resolution, and being able to test resolutions on the fly.

I tried switching to sdlmame yesterday for grins and got some weird behavior. I tried to run using -resolution auto -frameskip auto (in case the cpu couldn't keep up) and -switchres, as seen below:

The results were...well weird. It chose the correct resolution, but see for yourself:

I tried using -centerh and -centerv, but they had no impact. See that vs what happens in advancemame with similar switches:

Any thoughts on what might cause this "rollover" effect in sdlmame?

That's super-extra-bizzare. I'll have to dig up those modelines you can use to add 384x224 to the NVidia drivers and try and duplicate the problem.

BTW, I get a similar effect on all modelines, not just that one.

Take mspacman for example:

# 384x224x60.00 @ 15.750kHz
Modeline "384x240x60.11" 7.308000 384 400 440 464 240 244 247 262 -HSync -Vsync

You use 240 instead of 224 due to the black bars that get rendered top and bottom, per Andy at Ultimarc. Both advmame and sdlmame are using that modeline in the pics above.

Just noticing...the overlapped part getting drawn on the left is drawing 1 scanline lower than the main portion on the right.

Try -nocenterh.

Kinda sorta better.

ddragon2 works, but appears stretched (even though I've disabled every reference to stretching I can find) and still has about a %15 overlap on the lefthand side (as opposed to 50/50 without the -nocenterh switch).

Try -nocenterv also, it seems like those don't work well for really low resolutions.

Didn't help. Although there's no overlap, now it's just overscanning heavily to the right. frown

Can you give this mode a try?

Code:
mode "384x224-60"
  #Horizontal: 15.720kHz #Vertical: 60.00026Hz
  geometry 384 224 384 224 32
  timings 132527 32 8 14 21 56 3

Modeline "384x224-60" 7.545632 384 392 448 480 224 245 248 262 -Hsync -Vsync
