Available here. There are many bugfixes to mainline this time, so even if you don't normally run u releases it's well worth it.

Up to date with mainline, plus Ernesto submitted an implementation of the multithreading task system that laserdisc games will require in the future, and I fixed a few internal errors with the SDL layer.

Smoke-tested on Fedora 6 32-bit, Intel Mac OS X 10.4.8, and Windows XP Pro SP2.

I guess the question of the week here is (I think I know the answer already but...), can we safely assume the laserdisk games will not be implemented in the same way daphne does?, but an exact image of the laserdisc will be needed? (This will be HUUUUUUGE won't it?)

The video will be much higher-quality than Daphne, yes. I believe the current estimate is 30-40 GB per disc side.

I don't seem to be able to redefine the INI_PATH at build time any more with this release. Any ideas as to what might have caused this? The INI_PATH patch to config.c is still there, so I'm not sure why it's not working.

The flag setup in the makefile changed fairly dramatically because of Atari Ace's meddling. Maybe the problem is there?

15-20 GB / side is more like it.

Laserdisc games will use CHDs with losslessly compressed data. We are capturing at 720x480, which means you will need a beefy computer and a non-sucky hard drive to run them full speed. On the other hand, the final results are quite nice (if I can just get the sound to stop overwriting itself). Current tests put the size at around 15-20 GB/side. Most games only used one side.

Eh, they didn't change *that* dramatically. Certainly far less changing than when I moved osdcore into a library, which is more likely where the INI_PATH stuff got dropped.

In SDLMAME it was pretty dramatic this time, moreso than last actually. I no longer understand how the baseline version can even compile and link the way it's set up, but that's mostly Nathan's fault :-)

I'm a bit confused by this comment... Why is it higher quality than Daphne? DVD2DAPH rips the video from the disk and you play as it was encoded. It will output whatever was passed to it. From what I understand all it's doing is using the generated frame file to play the correct video frames during the game.

People are using Daphne to play the HD version of Dragon's Lair after ripping the video content to the hard drive.
