Out of interest, how hard do you think it would be to make an (obviously intel) Mac version of Zinc, based on the (I would assume) Linux version? Just interested how interested I should be in a possible source release smile

ZiNc itself compiles as-is on Intel Macs - the problem is the accelerated video plugins are all still closed source. I should razz Pete about that more - it's 2006, people barely care about PS1 video emulation anymore, so why the big secret? wink

The PEOpS open-source unaccelerated video and sound plugins do support ZiNc now so smoke testing is possible (although you'd have to start off using X11 as the display target).

Are the Intel Macs not fast enough to do software rendering at full speed?

They probably are, but in general people aren't playing ZiNc to get pixel-exact emulation if you know what I mean.

Aye, just curious.

I think some people will use ZiNc with software renderers - it's still waaaaaaaaaaaay faster than MAME (well i'm sure that modern x86 macs can run MAME at full speed, but sometimes you need to run some cpu-heavy stuff in background, it's what i always liked in ZiNc - when system is under heavy load, ZiNc still sounds good, no hickups ) and software plugins can do high res rendering which looks better on computer monitors.

System specs: Linux (2.6.29.4), A64 X2 5400+, 6Gb RAM, Quadro FX 5600.

Funny, this is precisely what I came in here looking for. Actually, I wanted to get source code to compile both on my Intel Mac and on my FreeBSD box that will be in the arcade cabinet. I know I can install Linux compat, but I'm trying to run this off of compact flash (roms stored on a hard drive of course!) and trying to keep the OS size down. wink

Would Zinc work on an intel mac with Crossover, cause from what I gather it now supports opengl and D3D, or would t just be a better option to use bootcamp?

I'd be fairly surprised if Crossover didn't run it, although it'd be tricky to set up since Crossover assumes all apps have a GUI and installer.

Would it be easier to work with Crossover and a frontend? I'm assuming that most of the frontends are quite simple GUI driven apps which should play well with Crossover.
