Whenever I try to load a game (even the simplest of things like Pac-Man) MAME OS X will go through its whole loading routine through 100%, then say Loading Complete as an alert slides out and says that "Some files were missing" and urges me to read the log. These same games work without error in MacMAME, but MAME OS X is more up-to-date. I'd use it, but MacMAME is the only emulator that loads my games. What am I doing wrong, or is this fixed in v.0.118?

You need to update your ROM sets.

Your ROMs are out of date. They change as MAME evolves.

It happens to some ROMs I downloaded just yesterday, too, they're not out of date unless the site is too, and I haven't found a single rom anywhere that doesn't do this.

You'd be surprised. Unless the site certifies that they're for 0.118 they could well be out of date.

Alternatively, you might be trying to play a game that requires multiple sets: Neogeo games require neogeo.zip *and* the game's zip, for instance. The US version of Pacman requires the Japanese puckman.zip also. And so on.

The site didn't certify anything at all other than it's a top 3 gaming site, which doesn't mean much at all. I've not seen a single site with up-to-date ROMs for Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat, do you know of any? BTW, I have neogeo's ROM and I believe I also have puckman.

you know, asking about roms is forbidden (since it's copyrighted material)

but you can find a few released for private use here:

http://mamedev.org/roms/

just to verify if the emulator works well on your computer

Nothing doing; MAME quits after opening the game "Crash", but doesn't display the Missing Files alert. Crash works fine in MacMAME. I wish someone would continue MacMAME, I've grown to love it.

Apple provides System 7.0.1 for download, it's possible to configure the Mini vMac emulator to run it too.

Anyway, the Crash game certainly has a fitting name, based on what it did in Mame OS X.
