Hello,

I hope you can help - i am new to linux, having just bought a ps3 and installed ubuntu 'gutsy gibbon' to play mame.

I have managed to install mame using xmame and kxmame, but there are all sorts of problems as this are old versions.

I would like to install sdlmame, but i have no idea how to compile stuff - i have tried but failed, my computer skills are not that great...

is it possible to get a debian for a ppc version of sdlmame? or can you point me in the right direction of how i might get this to work?

thanks in advance

Lee

First, make sure you have the compile tools by typing:

sudo apt-get install build-essential libsdl1.2-dev

Next, cd into the extracted SDLMAME folder and type:

make CELL=1

That will compile.

You also need to install libxinerama-dev, so try

sudo apt-get install libxinerama-dev

and then restart the compile.

thanks - that worked this time. Just a little bit of extra help if you can, i would appreciate it.

i have managed to get mame running, and my roms run ok by opening the file mamecbe (i dont know if this is the correct way) but i do not get any sound...

Also i cannot get my sixaxis controller to be recognised - i have googled it, but i cant find any info on how to go about making ubuntu recognise the sixaxis...

thanks for your time

Lee

Did you take a look at the new -sixaxis switch?

Unfortunately I don't own a PS3, so I can't try it myself.

Hi there, I'm a total Ubuntu/Linux noob and am having a hard time getting this installed.

I just downloaded 0.121 and followed your steps posted above. First, when I try and do this:

Code:
sudo apt-get install build-essential libsdl1.2-dev

I get this:

Code:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package libsdl1.2-dev is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source
E: Package libsdl1.2-dev has no installation candidate

If I just cd to the extracted SDLMame directory and do this:

Code:
make CELL=1

I get this:

Code:
make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.

And if I try and do this:

Code:
sudo apt-get install libxinerama-dev

I get this:

Code:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package libxinerama-dev is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source
E: Package libxinerama-dev has no installation candidate

Nothing is working! frown Help? Thanks!

Looks like you don't have all repository settings right.

Could you post your /etc/apt/sources.list?

./mamecbe -sixaxis (or in your .ini file). That only works if your kernel recognizes the controller in the first place though.
