Well, after almost ten years, I've shut down MacMAME.net. It hadn't been updated much since the last release of MacMAME two years ago, and since that indeed appears to be the last release of MacMAME, I didn't see any point in keeping the site around. The domain name has not been renewed, and I suppose it's now up for grabs if anyone wants it.

It was a lot of fun running the site in MacMAME's heyday, but like the classic era itself, it would seem all good things must come to an end, and so it seems to be with MacMAME as we knew it, and the original community (for the most part) that had built up around it.

The one part of MacMAME.net worth keeping - the movie reviews - will be finding a new home at Cinemarcade, which seems appropriate (thanks to Dave Dries). Once they're in their new home, I'll post a notice here, since I'll be updating one of the reviews and adding a brand new one.

These days I spend most of my time over at AtariAge. I've been involved in the Homebrew scene quite a bit, creating sprites and other artwork for a whole slew of new games for the Atari 2600. It's been a lot of fun, and there are a number of people from the MacMAME boards over there as well. Plus, I've got my blog over there too, if you want to catch up with more of what I've been up to. My CheepTech website will see a major overhaul this year, and become my new home on the web.

For the time being, anyone wanting to dig through what was left of MacMAME.net can find it here. This will be going away sometime in the next few weeks or months, since the server it's on is being retired, and I'm not going to make any efforts to keep it online after that.

Thanks to everyone for visiting the site over the years, to those who have made contributions to it, and especially to Brad for making MacMAME, and keeping it going for far longer than any one individual could have been reasonably expected to.

See you around!

- Nathan

Thanks for all the work on MacMAME and countless posts here on the boards Nathan Its crazy to think you have been registered here since 2000 and were doing interviews and news about MacMAME even before that. I distinctly remember reading your interview with Brad back in 2000 and reading it today really took me back.

As much as I will miss MacMAME (I started with the very first version in 1997), I think that we have in the combination of MAME OS X and SDLMAME fantastic replacements and, comparing to 10 years ago, with current Mac OS X and Macs a great environment to run them on.

Although the excitement of seeing for the first time Pacman, Galaga, Xevious and co. on my computer screen may have waned a little, every minor u release is still special to me and I can't stop compiling it, twisting it, making sure I have proper screenshots, artwork and even updating once in a while a little utility that I wrote for it, about the only programming effort I do today.

MAME is one of the greatest software pieces on my hard disc, both literally and metaphorically speaking smile

IIRC, this is one of the first message boards ever I registered to because I couldn't get enough information about MESS and MAME in the days, and I hope to reach eventually my 1000th post here laugh

It was and still is a great community here, so let me thank you for all your work toward the MacMAME community and I hope you will still drop by from time to time.

Thanks for keeping the site running as long as you have. And thanks for the mirror, I've been meaning to download the screenshots libraries for a while now. wink

MacMAME.net will be missed, but I'm glad MAME is still alive and well on the Mac and work is still progressing on MAME itself. The work done on it is still awe inspiring to me.

I've been reading your Atari Blog for a while now. Love some of the stuff you've been working on. I recently got an 800XL myself which I've been playing around with.

EDIT: Heh, 500th post. Good thread to do it in.

Nathan~

Thanks for the memories! Seriously, I humbly thank you for all of your efforts for MacMAME over the years. This board was one of my daily routines so many years ago and I have fond memories of it. Good luck on future ventures!

I'll probably still look in from time to time. It had been so long since I posted here though, I'd forgotten my password, and had to request a new one.

Thanks for the kind words though - I had a lot of fun here. (I was going to insert a "smiley" here, but the ones on this forum are so bugg-utly, I figured I was better off without it.)
