The 8KB setting for CHR is correct, but it is a PC10 game, which is screwy (I don't know what the technical reason is, but every PC10 ROM image I've seen has an extra 8K of CHR that needs to be tossed to emulate properly).

could it be code related to the PC10 menu?

Sorry for all the annoying posts, but there is another ROM which is acting strange.

Karate Champ (U) (REV0) [!].nes

You'll just get a blank screen when you run this ROM. It works in Nintendulator and FCE Ultra, though.

This ROM is also discussed a bit here. It may be a bad dump. Any idea why it works in Nintendulator? How does it run on the real NES?

The game crashes unless CPU RAM is zero-filled after RESET. This was probably what they fixed in REV.A when they discovered that the game wouldn't work on some consoles.

GoodNES apparently doesn't repair this game's header correctly. It gives it 8k of CHR-ROM. Setting CHR-ROM to none seems to fix it.
Please don't report troubles on ROMs that are not supposed to run on a Nintendo Home System =/

Vs. games yes. PC10 support is a bit more limited because I only emulate the RP2C03B PPU and nothing else. The inner working of the menu is still a bit unclear and my memory of PC10 in general is a bit fuzzy since the last time I played one in the arcades was during the eighties. One thing is for sure, iNES 1.0 isn't much help here since it has no way of telling an emulator that it's in fact a PC10 game.
