Here's a special bonus: a small CHD (830KB) that runs perfectly on the MESS Saturn driver (use SVN #2600 or later to fix a regression that struck in 0.124u4). It's also a previously unreleased "rarity" - the QSound Inc official demo for the Saturn made by game audio legend Brian Schmidt. Our current Saturn audio emulation happens to finally be good enough to reproduce it as it's meant to run, so it seemed like a good idea to put it out and about.

http://rbelmont.mameworld.info/qsound.chd (copy/paste the URL if necessary).

On commandline MESS, that's mess saturn -cdrom qsound.chd then follow the demo's on-screen instructions.

Version 0.125 of MESS (released this AM) doesn't seem to like this. I get a black screen for all 3 saturn sets through command-line, MESSUI and my Front-End. Do I have to wait more than a minute or two before the screen comes up? I am able to get 100% with Frameskip 6 or so on the black screen laugh

0.125 is broken, you need SVN #2600 or later.

ETA: if you don't compile yourself, Bobz's up to date now smile

I wasn't checking SVN numbers.. I assumed today was recent enough. Seems BOBZ has up to SVN #2600 - getting it now smile

EDIT: Machine is too slow to enjoy .. 50-60% with FS 10 - but it works fine. Thanks.

yeah, the saturn black screen was bugzilla bug 1606...

it's been fixed a bit too late for the release

SH-2 is a confirmed target after the universal DRC framework lands, which should help the system requirements fairly significantly.

Yes. The framework, a MIPS-III frontend, and x86 and x64 backends should be in 0.125u1.

I want to understand better if it's possible.

This part of Aaron To-Do List is coming:

Quote:

universal DRC backend
define common IR that all DRCs compile to
write backends for x86/x64
also write canonical "C" interpreted backend, designed to be run in parallel
update MIPS3 DRC to the new backend
look into TMS32031 and/or ADSP support

So these changes to the core means other speed improvments for multicore CPU's and perhaps a x64 PPC_DRC is not so far to become true?

it means that's easier to add DRC without pain.

DRC => speedup (of course)
without pain => many more DRC could appear (but still someone has to write them... it's not that adding a backend automagically creates ten accurate and fast DRCs )

Arbee, please correct me if I'm wrong in the above points
