Alright, I am going to make a new cheat code pack, using the new xml format for the files. It would take a very long time to complete this project if I'm the only one working at it. I have started it and completed up to leter B. Basically what I'm doing is going to the game genie website, copy/paste the codes into the cheat section of Nestopia and then exporting the xml file to a folder, naming the file the name of the game.

My server is down so I can't upload what I have already done for you to check out. As soon as it's back up I'll post a zip file.

Does anyone want to help with this project? It's very easy to do, just time consuming if I'm the only one working on it. Please let me know.

If you want you can also go to the gshi, we had made better codes than those, fixing some problems and adding lot of new cheats.

After a rapid look I must say that is good, but there is a little problem. Game Genie codes depend of each version of the game, so if the codes are made for the american version is most than probably that they will not work for the japanese version.
But it's really a good work.
I hope that Marty find a way sometime to add the codes in a lonely file and automatically shows the code for each game once we load them, that will make a project like yours more easy to do.

You know, I never realized that until just now, when I tried about four different invicibility codes for Castlevania from http://gshi.org/ and none of them worked. All my codes I get from the official game genie site, so I'm assuming they are all USA codes...

There are diff version of the castlevania game, like revisions: PRG0, PRG1, etc. Probably that's your problem, if you know what PRG is yours and what region I can made it instantly.

Oh ok, well I've added just a few files since the first download link I posted. Check it out: download. See what you can do. You can always go to the game genie site and start at letter Z laugh

Too bad there isn't a way to make cheat codes load based on the roms checksum or CRC. I'd personally think that would make the cheats unique to each cartridge rom then. But I'm just tossing an idea here.

I think that Marty is looking in a way to implement some hash to the cheat engine. Hope he find a way to auto load the cheats based in that. Could be really great. Maybe I will do a serious database if that's the case. And not only GG, PAR also. GG are good for some things and PAR for others. You could do things with par that couldn't be easily made with GG, poking an address is one RAM location with PAR/AR, poking a RAM address as ROM code will need as a minimum of 3 lines code.

It could also be possible to have a cheat file in the zip for XML ROMs and give a choice of which one(s) to enable when you load the game.

I don't know, I prefer to have my roms alone, but could be as a possibility.

Can I suggest that there be another path for cheats, so when you import/export in the cheat window it doesn't open the ROM directory.

That's a good idea too to complement the others. A path just for the cheats will be great.

My XML's

I used batch files and macros to pull all of the cheats from gamegenie.com and make them XML's for use with Nestopia.

The only problems so far, is that Dragon Warrior 4 is too big for Nestopia to load, and also, with codes needing multiple entries, I just used the description "And", but I didn't realize Nestopia alphabetizes the codes. So if someone wants to edit the xmls, if a description says "and" then it goes with the code under it.

Feel free to add or edit these in any way.

PS, It was nice to know that all you need in the xml is the game genie code and the description, Nestopia figures out the rest.

Edit: I forgot to add that some of the descriptions say "or", and that means that code is an alternative if the one under it doesn't work.

I'm fixing the "and"s and "or"s myself, the new files will be up later tonight or tomorrow.

Edit:
Fixed XMLs
Here are the fixed files, please help me test these. Dragon Warrior 4 still needs split up.

Again, feel free to edit these however you want.

In testing my own files, I'm realizing that not all of the codes are loading. But yet, if I add the same codes to a different file in the same manner, they load fine. I don't quite understand it.

Awesome rimsky82!
Can you please look at my Castlevania 1 and 2 and also 1942 and implement those codes into yours. You are missing some very good ones. If you used a macro with the codes from gamegenie.com, why do you only have one code in your 1942? I hope codes aren't missing from all the rest of them.

I think these are far better than the ones at the game genie page.

1942 (JU)
=========
[INFINITE LIVES]
SGXLKEVK

[INFINITE ROLLS]
SGESPUVK

[INVINCIBILITY]
OLXNEEOO
OUELZSOO

The problem is that the game genies that galoob people did are not so good. And lot of their codes were too basic and not covered lot of important effects.
I had made lot of codes for NES, and still I have lot more to run into. That's the reason why I wanted Nestopia (for far the best NES emu today) to have a cheat engine that allow the codes to auto load when the ROM is loaded charging all the codes in a single file.
I planned to pass all my codes to Nestopia and start again doing what is left. And that way could be more easy to release one single file than lots of little files. But once again that's only my opinion and my point of view.

1942 was one of the files I was testing the macros on, and I must not have noticed codes were deleted. All other games should be ok. I'm still having problems loading the codes; Nestopia will only load some. I'm wondering if it has to do with the xml formatting.

Once I figure out this problem I'll start adding more codes to them.

Edit: I figured out that it's not the formatting, it's that Nestopia won't load 2 codes with the same address, even if they're not enabled by default. I think it would be better if it would load all codes, but not let you enable 2 codes with the same address. That would give us options i.e. to start with 3, 6, or 9 lives.

OK man sounds good. Please keep me updated. When all is finished, I will make the pack available on my website. I guess I will stop the project that I have started since you apparently know much more about this then me.

Just an opinion, I know your codes are better then the ones on the game genie site, but if it's easy to implement those ones too, I would, just for good old times sake LOL. No really, just to have them, for those that want them.

Also, any reason all your xml file names have underscores?

Good work dude, send me any updates please.

the game genie site had an html file for each game, and I didn't rename them. Only the extension.

Heh heh, you make my blush (Was it intended on me? Heh). I don't know how to say it, it's not that are better, it's that like with the game 1942 game where they just could make "start with" there are other games with lack of proper codes (and lot lot more with lack of codes) so there is where we come and do invincibility, energy, live codes, ect. It's more like those of galoob can be an addition to us. I'm not the only one but one of the more actives by today.
I'm not against galoob, and what is more I must congrat those guys, doing all that without the fancy debuggers we have today and the emus to test them more faster, those guys were really great.

Nice work on the cheat database! Seems pretty useful. I found a small problem with a few SMB2 cheats, and thought I might as well point it out:

Code:
    <cheat enabled="0">
        <genie>YAXXIYZE	Strong</genie>
        <description>ryclyde</description>
    </cheat>
    <cheat enabled="0">
        <genie>YAVXVGGE	Strong</genie>
        <description>ryguy</description>
    </cheat>
    <cheat enabled="0">
        <genie>YAEXTPGE	Strong</genie>
        <description>lawgrip</description>
    </cheat>
The word "Strong" should be in the description. It might not be a bad idea to see if other files have similar problems...

They work for me, when I buy something, the gold doesn't decrease, and you don't die when you run into enemies. Also, when an enemy dies, your experience goes through the roof, and so does your hp. They work, they just don't show right away.

I changed the directory where the file is held. You can't edit posts on this forum, so the above links won't work. Just go to the downloads section of my site. It's up to v1.3g.

I've tuned up the cheat dialog a bit by adding some more features to it:

- Column sorting in list-view.
- hex/dec showing modes.
- Can edit cheats.
- Can bind cheats to specific game (via CRC).

Since you guys have some things going on here, feel free to PM or mail me if you'd like to test the latest build and offer some feedback.
