Quick question, what's the status on Alien vs. Predator in the Jaguar driver? I seem to recall seeing screenshots a while back and it was playable even then, but I'd love to know the status after Ville's recent commits.
the third dump which has been released by the Spanish guys, OTOH, is from a game which is still being sold, so it won't be supported in MESS
AFAIK, on the purchase page for said game, it states that the game in question is now sold out, like the other 2 games that were dumped. Personally, I see no reason why this game should not be supported in MESS, though I could definitely be wrong.
it's been released in June 2011, so it is still out of reach due to the unwritten 3 years rule. also, I cannot exclude that they re-release the game, so no support for that one will be added in MESS for the time being: if we harm the developers'/publishers' work (don't forget here we are talking about a company which bought the right for publishing the games, it's not PD homebrew), we damage ourselves, because there won't be any more games to emulate
in the past few days I have also taken a look to Rockman 8, a Yong Yong pirate game for GB/GBC.
even after implementing the bankswitch mechanism, the game was skipping the intro and the level selection screen, and it was forcing the player to lose a life by putting rockman in an uncomfortable 'floating' situation, as in the following screen
only after losing the first life, the game became playable but forcing you to play the 'jungle' level
It turned out that this game accesses the RAM not through the way suggested by Nintendo in all its docs, but almost exclusively through a mirror (Echo RAM) which is described by development docs as "reserved" or as "not to be used at all"
properly emulating echo ram (which was basically ignored before) fixed the emulation...
..and this game became fully playable. soon to hit svn
p.s. and yes, despite being labeled as a bad dump by GoodGBX, it's not and it just uses a different mapper...
