I've just added Winchester support to the Apricot driver:

This also means that Windows 1.03 now works properly even with large applications:

Wow, I didn't know PageMaker was made for Windows 1.0. I'm quite familiar with the Mac version.

Cool, I remember our documentation manager back then was forced to use Windows 1.x + Pagemaker as the company wouldn't pay for the Xerox system he wanted. He was furious that it was dead slow, especially the printer driver that rendered everything in the PC before output it to the printer, I think it took 2-3 hours for < 100 pages document. The Apple system relied on PostScript in the printer which was much more efficient of course.

Cool!

FWIW, I'm only able to get IRIX53 working on the Indigo2. Indy kernel panics booting miniroot.
Which IRIX CD and machine were the above snapshots taken with?

Also, the Indy sound and input are intermittent and drop events on my machine (mame64/OSX). I have to type slowly to ensure keys register. Do you see this as well?

I also had to modify the source to add EFS install disks since I couldn't get CDROMs to work. Seems chdman expects ISO or it generates something mame is unhappy with. What's the trick?

This is a pure unoptimized C interpreter right now; it needs to be made to e.g. not kernel panic booting miniroot before anyone can even think of making it go fast. That is why the sound breaks up and the events drop. If you can manage to press F11 without macOS intercepting it you'll see just how poorly everything is actually running.

What format are your CD images in that CHDMAN isn't working? ISO is standard for workstation software, as it typically doesn't have audio tracks.

IRIX 5.3 will kernel panic when booting the miniroot if you have not yet set up an ethernet address. Remember: As far as the emulated machine is concern, it's being powered on with an uninitialized Dallas.

What you need to do is, from a command monitor, type:

Code
setenv -f eaddr 08:00:69:12:34:56

In order to initialize the ethernet address. At that point, the IRIX 5.3 installer will run perfectly fine. I would know - all of the screenshots above are from an install done on the emulated machine, not dd'd from an actual machine.

As for ISO CD images, they don't need to be run through CHDMAN in the first place. You can simply attach them directly using the -cdrom command-line option. Again, I know this because this is what I've been doing.

After a brilliant suggestion from Darkstar, I've fixed swapped X/Y with half of the Bresenham line drawing. buttonfly now looks exactly as it ought to.

OK, that explains the kernel panics. Thanks for the info, that solved it!

FWIW, none of the IRIX CDs I have are in ISO format:

file 812-0505-001.img
812-0505-001.img: SGI disk label (volume header)

I dumped them using Linux 'dd' from the original CDs.

When I run with these CD images, even with the '-cdrom' command I get a SEGV because it looks like MAME is expecting them to be ISO. Hmm. I'll have to try the actual CD in a PC and see if it can mount it. Maybe there's a hybrid format or something else going on here. Linux treats them as EFS.

As far as performance goes, I wasn't complaining. I just wanted to know what to expect.

Thanks again for all the hard work that went into this! It's great to see this old stuff running again.
