Is there any kind of internal limiting on the volume calculations that M1 does when the -v parameter is passed and normalization is turned off?

I ask because the command-line options that M1 lists state that you can pass in something like -v200 to double the usual volume, but I'm not getting that effect. kinst seems very quiet, but I've passed all the way up to -v800 with absolutely no effect on the volume that M1 outputs.

It works in the last release core from (mumble) years ago, it doesn't in the recent ones.
