Uhm actually I have planned this format, but it's just for our use only with real SC-3000 and digital archive... nothing to deal with a format for an emulator, at the moment.

Yes the idea was that one... even if a possible solution was to speedup emulation, but I was wondering if it was possible. But you are right... in SC-3000 every bit and bytes are read and accepted if valid by software... So it would be impossible to implement.

Our first goal was to create an online digital archive of tapes saving space, and let people test programs on real machine to wake up all SEGA SC-3000 users smile

For paying them, on Emulatorts, whe should provide WAVES, but they are heavy... so there are 2 solution:
- implement a light format like the tape ( the more suitable )
- giving directions to users for samping from our online tape player and save the dump on a wav. ( a little tricky )

So at this point, since we have this raw bitstream format "invented", it would be nice to impement this on MESS.
The only thing to do is to convert 0 and 1 into, for example

8bit 4800Hz sampled wav :
255 255 0 0 , for bit 0 = 1200 Hz Square Wave
255 0 255 0 , for bit 1 = 2400 Hz Square Wave

Within the cassette format section of MESS source code.

This wave creation part is exactly what all the cassette format related code in src/mess/formats/ is doing. It takes a byte or bit from the archival format and recreates the square wave in memory.

Oh great, so what it is needed is to write some code that read our bitstream format and transform into wave... then implement this format in sg1000 driver, from which sc-3000 emulation comes.
Who could do that smile ?

this is a simpe format where as I said:
"0" is a square wave of 1200Hz, "1" is 2400Hz and a "space" ( ascii 0x32 ) is a 833.3 us (the length of the 1200 or 2400 Hz wave ) of silence.

this is an example:

Hi,

Both tolls for SC3000/SF7000 are ready.

- Sc3K Tape converter (to convert wavs to Binary files TAP/TZX ,BIN or BIT format).
- SF7 Manager (to include/del/export binarys on SF7 disks).

But, i had to contact Marc de Douarain to create a bootable "Basic" disk.

Available as soon as possible on Sc-3000.com ...

Have Fun.

Hi to everybody,
Actually these tools are included in our download page... there are other utilities also, but, the most interesting news of the site is the online emulation! So now you can play sc-3000 games online!
We hope to go on in developing the TAP format.

once the format is ready, we will add it to MESS. keep up the good work!

also, I'm going to contact you soon to add some usage instructions to our sysinfo page for SC3000. Just give me a few days to finish a few other things I'm doing smile

Ok, thank you... Actually the format is almost ready... we can manage to convert tapes to bitstreams, and considering the hardware I think it will be the easiest format that can be used in emulation.
Contact me when you are ready!
