Hi... I've been looking around the web for information about the sound chip in Point Blank after I found it wasn't hooked up in MAME. I was quite suprised to find that M1 emulates it without any problems.

Is there any reason why the sound hasn't been added to MAME (along with the other games which use this chip)? Or is it just that no-one has had the time to get it up and running?

Thanks smile

The MCU that drives sound on most mid-90s Namco games contains a currently undumpable program ROM. M1 uses a simulator developed by Cap from VivaNonno which attempts to interpret the sound data the same way as that program would.

MAME generally eschews that sort of thing except as a last resort because it's inherantly inaccurate.
