Hi,

Is anybody able to put an Einstein 256 emulation into the next version of MESS? I ask because I've just got one, so I can probably provide the ROMs and any technical data if it helps (the TC-256 comes with a huge technical manual, right down to full schematics). If not I'll probably have a crack at it myself but I've not done anything with the MESS codebase properly before....

First provide the roms and technical data and then maybe someone will take the time to code a driver in MESS.

Does the Einstein 256 have anything in common with the Einstein TC-01 already in MESS?

Yes, the 256 is completely compatible with the TC-01. I think it should just be a matter of adding the graphics chip (a V9938 a la MSX2, I believe), and adding the RAM via whatever bankswitching it uses (I'm sure the technical tome I got with mine will say).

So it should be a simple job....

There's also palette ports to the VDP (used in MSX for example), are they used in the Einstein 256?

The only way to confirm this statement is to take a look at the dump wink

Could you dump your unit and submit the result to MESS? (the contact address is in the MESS website and Wiki)

Thanks in advance

And please accompany it with a scan of the schematics. Those are always really helpful.

The whole technical manual should probably be scanned, if possible, for preservation if nothing else. But that can come later, right now we just need the schematics.

You obviously haven't seen the size of the technical manual. smile 300 A4 pages (double sided, naturally).

To dump the ROM I'll need to open my Einstein, whip the drive out and connect it to the PC, I'll try and do that soon.
