Tokimeki: it does just that.

timing: while emulating everything at the 6 master cycle level is definitely causing problems, you do also need to consider that DMA and HDMA are "free" in MESS (and 8 master cycles on hardware, plus somne overhead), and that we don't emulate DRAM refresh at all. (Don't ask me for an exact cycle count there. it's "40" master cycles, but is that decimal or hex? I forget!).

Adding any of that to the emulation would slow down the main CPU significantly. (DMA is a minimum 4% in most games as it rewrites the palette and OAM. More if it updates the tilemap or tile data!)

I'll be back in a while with an update on what I've found to be fixed.

Edit: early bug retesting:

Tokimeki - still broke as sin, and the performance indicates we're doing something terribly wrong somewhere. I'll try a release build later, just in case.

Madara 2 - menus are fixed. Text break-up is not. combat is still only half-screen. Definitely closing in on "pretty much perfect" hi-res smile

"new" bug report: Bishoujo Wrestler Retsuden has a background gradient that should take up the full screen. MESS currently has it half-screen. It's probably an old bug, but I hadn't tested this particular case until now.

Edit 3: ok, now Chase HQ's menu screen is GREEN??

I just remembered that Tokimeki Memorial is a 32Mbit LOROM, quite an unusual configuration. Are you mapping it correctly?

LoROM is a mess of conflicting boards. It's not even standardized enough to migrate a game from one board to another reliably.

For an "incorrect" Tokimeki mapping, find any of the many ZSNES versions that screw up in very funny ways when the code jumps into what is mapped as sram.

check error.log message and you'll see how is it recognized (I don't have a copy of the image right now to verify)

about Super Chase HQ: here the color of the start screen goes randomly from black to pink to green depending on the run

about Seiken Densetsu: I have tried it yesterday and it seemed working (with only dialogue windows of the wrong size). now, in-game, it shows a black screen only. but it could be another of these random behaviors, because I cannot find an older svn revision which works, atm

very weird behaviors wink

EDIT: ok. found an image. I'm quite sure we are mapping it correctly (code based on BSNES, if you check messnew.txt). I had thought that "broken as sin" would have meant something like Test Drive 2, but here Tokimeki Memorial shows most of the graphics and only menu entries are really broken... could the game make use of the still-MIA OPT feature?

IIRC, the main ingame screen in Tokimeki Memorial has the top and bottom parts of the screen in hires, with standard res sandwiched in between--not sure what actual modes are used. I doubt that it uses offset-per-tile, though.

ok. then it could be something else, hires related maybe. however, we currently display most of the graphics but the menus: of course, lack of menu means that even simply starting a game is a hard task frown

sooner or later we'll get it

Starting a game is easy. smile

Start. Start. Start. repeat until you pretty clearly aren't at a menu. Guess where either the top or bottom in-game choice is. If you happen to hit the one that say "give me the backstory, you'll see lots of pictures of high school freshman girls looking somewhat sad. If you don't, you go to a broken screen smile

Just... not as bad as ZSNES smile

Tokimeki Memorial is just like Doukyusei 2 (even the same type of game, aka dating sims)...it swaps between mode 1 and 5, mode 1 gfxs gets doubled in x-axis if you swap into mode 5 (and I presume it's like this for available ROM space / performance purposes).
I don't know yet the real reason about the missing text in TM, the only sure thing is that is in "regular" mode 5 and it's theoretically drawn with bg2 / the 2bpp layer.
