I'm using no other video options. Not sure about events to cause the update. At the 8bit board emulation of the system, displaying text without any key press will cause the backdrop update.

However, the UNIX emulation does not have much display text to go out before the system waits for user input. In this case, consistently, after
two Enter key events, the backdrop appears.
The layout file:

Yea, upgrading to 0.129 would be interesting. I'll try to debug the update problem and if it gets too iffy, I'll try the later release.

So I notice the website for this was updated a while ago with a download package, which although labelled as "precompiled" does include source code as well. (It's inside a Windows installer so I've mirrored a plain zip version here for Linux/OS X folks.) Anyone up for seeing what's mergeable?

in svn 5767 I added some basic stuff to add P8000 to MESS, both 8 and 16 bit boards, simply using P8000emu as a reference.

the 16 bit one is just sketched because it needs a real z8001 core (it needs a 16bit IO map vs the 8 bit one allowed by Z8000). the 8 bit one features most of the components of the daisy chain, but it does not do much (at the moment) and lacks the support for floppies & inputs

I don't plan more work on this in the short term ((also because most of the documents are in German and I get annoyed quite fast when I have to translate things twice or three times before being able to figure out my stupid mistakes), but I thought the original author may be interested to port some of his code to more recent MAME cores...

Here's a diff of the sources against MAME 0.123:

At least the Z80 peripheral stuff seems interesting and should be merged in.

Kale's been on a tear with z80dma so he definitely needs to be in on this smile
