I think you are right. Sometimes it is difficult to see which parts or relations can caused a problem.

@Robbbert: partial_hash was working perfectly fine yesterday (otherwise NES driver would not have worked and it was working). I fear that commenting out the related lines in image.c you've just broken NES (and partially Intellivision) drivers!

But did you check first, before saying that?

That routine is only called by the software picker.

the "fear" part is due to the fact I'm unable to compile until tonight... looking at git, I fear I confused image_device_compute_hash with hash_compute. still, with your change, the picker won't recognize NES images anymore.

It is showing all the files, if that's what you mean. Some of them have the extra info, too.

I downloaded the latest SVN build from Bob Z's site in order to check out how the hash files work and can't figure out what to do.

There are a bunch of .hsi files in the hash directory from a800 to wswan and i guess my expectation was that these files would be accessed to verify the correct names by comparing against the crc & sha1 for valid software. However i can not see anything new in the messui interface.

How are these hash files different from judge's xml software lists and for that matter how do you use the xml lists?

I am a bit confused with the whole thing. Can someone please explain what i am missing.

thanks in advance

.hsi should be by GUI to identify the games you have in a folder: point the GUI to a folder for software and the picker should scan it and identify some file

.xml can only be used at command line for the moment

xml is under development, its features will become apparent later.

With hsi, make sure they are in the hash folder. In MESSUI, make sure the Hash directory says hash. Some easy systems to test with are gamecom carts and exidy snp's; in both cases the files are obtainable quite easily. Make sure the files show in the software picker. Now, at the bottom of the picker, there is a slide bar; push it to the right to see the extra info.
