Pegasus driver
It seems, I must make a clean compile because I am not able to load Tank.wav or Invaders.wav sucessfully.
Bios default M >L Press Enter Play Tape
The Tape counter never stop.

Some tapes just won't load. It seems that tapes made by one machine could not always load on another. I did get a Tank.wav that does work, but I could never load Invaders.

Thank you for your feedback. You are right, my .wav dumps was wrong. Now, I have the right ones. Invaders.wav is working too. Happy birthday, lord_philip !

"[PEGASUS] Added decryption of bios and carts, if first byte is 02. Added notes. Removed commented-out printer."
This sounds.. ugly? Isn't this where you'd want the software lists, and a 'type' to indicate that they're encrypted.
Guessing if something is encrypted from a byte in a cart is a hack at best, and as bad as the 'guess the SRAM size' type hacks that hopefully the software lists will abolish completely.

on the long term, yes. software lists might cover these things more easily (even if keeping this trick for non-softlist loading cannot harm, as long as the source documents why is there)
otoh, on the short term, there is still a lot of work to be done on software lists before they can be considered the suggested way to load games in MESS: we lack mirroring of rom for games which use it, we lack a standard way to handle per-game sram, etc.
as a result (and because pegasus emulation is in progress), this 'ugly' solution is imho perfectly fine at this stage.
btw, thanks Robbbert for getting in touch with the Pegasus guy at Mbee boards. I don't know when/how this system would have been otherwise preserved

Yeah, it's lucky he posted about it, otherwise I would never have known of its existence. There were manuals and software, and the schematics revealed standard chips, nothing over-complex, so I realised that it could be emulated without much trouble.
As for encryption, as AnnaWu posted, it's really just that the address and data lines are swapped around, for convenience or annoyance who knows, in any case a single eprom always has 20 as the first byte in order to be recognised and appear in the menu. In the "encrypted" form, this becomes 02. So while appearing to be ugly, it means you can load a rom of either type and if it needs to be decrypted it will happen automatically. This even applies to the bioses, some are encrypted and some not. Obviously, we would like to have all encrypted ones if and when they become available.
Of course, software lists can be used somewhere down the track.
