Arbee. Are there any plans to port ZiNc to Mac OS X? Apologies if this has already been addressed elsewhere. Thanks in advance.

ZiNc is not very portable, to put it mildly :-) Throw in that I don't have access to the source for the OpenGL plugin (and AFAIK Pete doesn't have a Mac) and it seems kinda pointless. If I get sufficiently bored at some point I might try it, but no promises.

Yup, I don't have a Mac, but there are already Mac ports of my Peops plugins (aka soft GPU and SPU) available, and there is even a Mac version of my OpenGL plugin under way (the OpenGL plugin is not Open Source, but I don't have problems to give the sources to capable porters... at least the ones I know and trust).

But still ... what about the recompiler ?
Doing a MIPS recompiler for a PPC is a piece of cake, but someone (with a PPC) has to do it.

Although, on G5 macs you might just get away with interpreting.

I think "emulate MIPS" is one of those wild 6-operand PPC instructions, isn't it? wink

Pete: having working Mac ports of the PEOpS plugins would definitely make it easier. Except that ZiNc 1.2 isn't compatible with the PEOpS plugins again because we changed the API around for light gun games :-)

Of course, another problem with the Mac is that a lot of them come with crappy video cards (FX5200 anyone?) and also .. even worse .. crappy OpenGL *drivers*. PC is simply driving the sales, so thats where the 'Icing (Icer? wink is put on the cake'.

What Mac do you have and what made you get one? I was tempted by a mac mini, but it's only g4.

I have a 1.4 GHz mini. I bought it because it's (relatively) cheap, it's cute, and I wanted to play with OSX :-) Also, being small and silent, it makes an excellent relay for video and mp3s out to my home theater system when I'm not using it to chase endian bugs in MAME.

Yes that's pretty much what I was thinking.
