while you're at it, when I try to access the master branch from http://git.redump.net/cgit.cgi/mess/ , the repository keeps giving me an old revision instead of the latest one wink

About the manufacturer name changes in SVN:

I would actually prefer shorter names: "Sony" instead of "Sony Computer Entertainment Inc", "Commodore" (or CBM) instead of "Commodore Business Machines", "IBM" instead of "International Business Machines".

Agreed. MAME has always used "Konami" and "Namco" and "Williams", not the complete corporate structure.

I mainly wanted things to be consistent across the systems to avoid the same manufacturer being named in 3 different ways (as it was previously, in some cases).

if there is consensus on this, I will batch replace the complete manufacturer names with shorter versions later

me too, basically (except in a few cases, e.g. I prefer Bondwell Holding Bondwell 12 over Bondwell Bondwell 12)

the long names for Amstrad, Sony, CBM and others come straight from the old cvs repository, or even from MESS origins.

I actually thought I was the only one not liking the full names...
