I haven't been precise, sorry. I was thinking to usage of Unicode chars to display descriptions and so on: we only have recently added a couple of omlaut & c, and in this sense the support is marginal.

but of course, the exe is fully Unicode as the newui screen above shows

I got this bug yesterday while testing games on the tutor/pyuuta driver using the softwarelist
Code:
mess pyuuta -cart tutor

This is since tutor is name of list, so mame_strwildcmp there is NULL. Will send fix to Eta

I'm going to commit the fixes for all the corner cases (+ an improvement by Micko soon)

The delay is due to the following addition:

as you can see, now MESS is capable of exploiting parent-clones relationship in software lists (the printf'd message is just a debug message I had put to confirm that the rom is actually found...)

i.e. most of the MAME functionalities are finally shared with software lists smile

For shits and giggles, assuming all the software list work is in code shared by MAME, you should try as an experiment editing an arcade driver and loading ROMs via software list. wink

nah, I'll leave that to Haze, if he wants to. There is still work to be done on the MESS side (even if you are right, the code is fully shared) to keep me busy wink

The MESS AES driver now *is* an arcade driver that loads ROMs via software list for all intents and purposes smile

parent / clones support is in. we don't have (yet) many drivers using effectively split set, mainly aes and nes. but if you experience any weird behavior let me know.

For most systems it doesn't make sense.. the XML is a lot uglier to use / work with than the built in rom macros, and when you're loading a lot of roms for a game you want clarity, not the coding equivalent of a cave shooter.

However I've already stated that I plan on adding a Megatech option using the Software lists, because the software lists give you multi cartslot support, which means people will be able to specify exactly what configuration of 10 games they want on the MegaTech if they use that option.

There are places where the SLs make sense in MAME, there are places where they don't. As a secondary option for some systems they could potentially be quite useful tho :-) As a primary option, the thought of the XML makes me cringe.

I'd like to see MAME/MESS fall back to the primary rom paths if software isn't found in the system folders tho, that will make the megatech stuff easier, because people aren't going to want to have to duplicate their roms in a 'megatech' folder. Maybe this was already done, I haven't checked yet.

I had actually thinking about relaxing that subfolder requirement a bit.

What if the romload code could actually go down directories? That'd also give people a bit more options for sorting their own collections.
