Time is read from your PC's clock, it's not stored in the PRAM image.

Settings definitely do keep - I just changed the video mode, shut down, and restarted MESS and it was fine. Check what your nvram path is in mess.ini and make sure you have permissions for that folder.

If you're on Windows you'll know networking will be working when you need new compile tools to build smile

ETA: I should note that I've only been able to make OpenTransport work, which implies System 7.5 or later. It should be possible to make networking work on the old MacTCP on 6.0.8 and 7.0/7.1, but I haven't been able to figure out how yet.

Also, networking stability was greatly improved in my testing by installing the OpenTransport 1.3 update; you can get it from System 7 Today here (click "680x0" for 7.5 or 7.6, it's the same update both places).

OpenTransport 1.3 is supported and works perfectly under 7.1 - at least here on my real SE/30. So we don't need the old MacTCP for supporting 7.1.

Yeah, but a bunch of real applications don't work with Broken Transport as it was nicknamed.

Everything I've tried works with it, and most of the newer software (e.g. iCab and the 68k-compatible Twitter client) requires it. I've gotten MacTCP to work since then too, but the configuration panel is uniquely awful if you aren't on a class C block.

I think most of the compatibility problems were ironed out in later versions of Open Transport, so updating OT should make the apps that didn't like it work. I'm with you on that configuration panel - it's terrible. But we learned to use it and love it back in the day.

on the maciix it will not go into 32bit mode and it worked in the last mess. Yes mode 32 is installed and other systems like the maciici boot 32 bit mode.

What version was "the last MESS", and what version are you using now?
