The reason it's usually not enabled simply is that it's (again) a bit misplaced for an emu front-end, and it's overkill for most users. But if someone's interested, I can really recommend it!
Here's a screenshot of the Web-Inspector in action (measuring resource load times on this board smile ):

Yeah, and its auditing tool just helped me to find and fix a long-standing "bug" on the QMC2 homepage smile... Firefox found "favicon.ico", but the MiniWebBrowser did not because it was searching for it in another place, following the theme / style-sheet (which it told me explicitly). As I said, an extremely useful tool!

So, I THINK it should work correctly now... SVN r3282!

I tried all widget-settings (flags & attributes) one can think of, but in the end felt most comfortable with the tool-tip like setup since it's the only platform-independent 'clean' way to produce a widget in the way I want -- most importantly, it shouldn't steel keyboard input focus. There are a few other platform-dependent ways to accomplish that, but all of them had one or more drawbacks... despite not being available on every platform.

The 'tool-tip' implementation in Qt apparently does some tricky things, it especially causes the widget to always stay on top (and to bypass the window-manager). This in itself has some drawbacks, esp. what results in the bug you pointed out (Kaylee). I've now tried to overcome this in other ways (also tricky, and a bit 'timing dependent' which I usually try to avoid, but I see no better way here). So, it's the best I can do for now, and at least for me it does fix the issue, also on Windows (I can no longer repro it).
Thanx, now it seems fixed

Using qmc2-0.34-1.fc16.x86_64 and MAME 0.144 icon set (6175 files), they're simply not loading:
Code
12:43:14.471: icon cache cleared
12:43:14.474: checking icons from directory
12:43:14.479: WARNING: game list not fully loaded, check results may be misleading
12:43:14.505: check pass 1: found and missing icons
12:43:14.510: pre-caching icons from directory
12:43:14.561: done (pre-caching icons from directory, elapsed time = 00:00.051)
12:43:14.562: 0 icons loaded
12:43:16.996: check pass 2: obsolete files: reading directory structure
12:43:18.031: done (checking icons from directory, elapsed time = 00:03.567)
12:43:18.032: 0 found, 18547 missing, 6175 obsolete
What constitutes them all to be obsolete?

If they are in ICO format (which I assume) you must ZIP them into one icon(.zip) file and point QMC2 to it. ICO format is only supported in this way, not when decompressed (if you also want to know why, I can elaborate on it smile ).

Actually, using a ZIP for all icons is the only useful way to store them: it's MUCH faster!

Ok, I did have qmc2 options set for 'directory', not an archive file... so I zipped and changed to point to an archive and got this:
Code
13:20:28.147: icon cache cleared
13:20:28.150: checking icons from ZIP archive
13:20:28.154: WARNING: game list not fully loaded, check results may be misleading
13:20:28.155: check pass 1: found and missing icons
13:20:28.156: pre-caching icons from ZIP archive
13:20:28.941: done (pre-caching icons from ZIP archive, elapsed time = 00:00.785)
13:20:28.942: 6175 icons loaded
13:20:31.131: check pass 2: obsolete files: reading ZIP directory
13:20:32.404: done (checking icons from ZIP archive, elapsed time = 00:04.265)
13:20:32.405: 6029 found, 12518 missing, 146 obsolete
Besides embedding it into a column, shouldn't it appear as the icon for the embedded emulator window? wink
Regardless, it's awfully tiny. frown
Thanks for help and a most useful front-end!

The size of the icons changes with the font size... but yes, I was already considering to add them to a different column, but I'm unsure which one to use smile. The "tag" column would perhaps be a good place for it... the problem is that I can't mix several icons into the same column, at least not very easily. Well, I may put some work in it.

The idea to use them for embedded emulators is nice, I have to check how quickly that could be done smile.

I made the icons a bit bigger in the latest SVN commit. Guess they really were "awfully tiny" smile.
