What's the minimum amount of information or files needed to consider inclusion into MESS for the following systems:

NCR DMV (Z80, 8086 and 68008)
Siemens PC-D (80186)
DEC Rainbow 100

I have BIOS files for the first two systems (haven't opened the Rainbow yet) and disks to test ... also quite some amount of technical documentation for each of the machines.

Dumps for all of the ROMs (the system BIOS plus any video character-generator ROMs) are basically bare minimum. Disk images and technical documentation of course are great bonuses

And preferably PROMs too

but if the system works, make a video of it booting up, and possibly running something *before* you start taking it apart and de-soldering bits.. just in case ;-)

Obviously not *required* but it's general good advice, as people have been known to break things, leaving us with no idea how it's actually meant to look.

(This obviously changes for stuff like NOS of HDD based systems where ideally you'd want the drives dumped in a completly untouched never booted state, keep floppies write protected and such too)

Hello everybody ... my Eprommer just packed in ... *aaaaargh* ... so until I get that fixed, here's what I've got:

Videos of the Systems shouldn't be a problem ... what's bothering me more is finding a way to read the proms, mabye they're pin compatible with some supported eproms or I can read them through software.

for reading proms, before i got a programmer which handled them, i used a piece of solderless breadboard (yknow, with the holes with little springy wipers inside) and a dip24-ended cable which i'd plug one side into programmer and the other into the breadboard
then wire up, with wires, the expected 2732 or mc68764 pinout of the programmer to the inputs and outputs of the prom; this works very well for proms up to 64kbit in size.

Also, sometimes the new programmer refuses to read a chip (phantom overcurrent, pins that are unconnected internally, and sometimes just plain luck), and when that happens i go back to the old system. Currently I have the breadboard wired up with a crystal and a 9v battery (to supply -5v in a hackish way) in order to dump intel 8021/8022 chips.

I have added these two machines as skeletons for now. Thing is that in DMV rom images you placed two same (from Z80) so 68k one is missing. Can you please upload new one ?

Excellent, thanks ... I'll see what I can do about the Rainbow.

I'm just digging out information at the moment: The thing about the two DMV hex images was, that one machine would accept my 68k module, the other not. This is why I dumped their respective ROMS (so they're both main ROMs from the Z80 mainboard)... I now found out that it's not the ROM after all, but the type of internal 8086 adapter used. The one that accepts the third (68k) coprocessor has interrupts enabled ... I'll try to dump its proms' content tonight.

It would be very helpful if you could tell me what specific information or code is needed next.

As an aside,
the keyboards of the systems mentioned in this thread are very distinct from standard AT type keyboards. What is needed to provide keyboard support?
