hi all,

i just updated to 144u4 and have been messing around with it. noticed that my favorite 5200 game "montezuma's revenge" isn't working. last version i used was 142 and it was ok there.

not sure if this is a bug or not so thought i'd post here

What do you mean by isn't working? I've confirmed mess 0.144 does start and begin play the a5200 game, though i haven't built u4 yet.

Seems that it works if you load it via the picker interfacing but not through the software list.

So, use:
mess a5200 -cart path\to\montezum.zip
instead of:
mess a5200 montezum

.. for it to work. I'm sure it's just a trivial mapping issue that the .HSI file takes care of but the software list.xml does not.

This is one of the softlists I intend to work on soon. Hopefully we can clear up the issues surrounding the mapping.

ah ok, good to know. curious, in my FE, i use the line you said to use but it doesn't start. my rom tho is not named montezum.zip but rather montezumas revenge.zip.

does the rom need to be named what it is in the HSI file?

thanks for the feedback!

edit: just tried it with just the short name (duplicated the rom with the shorter name) and it still didnt fire up. just an fyi smile

No. I was simply using the shortname that is used for the game in the softlist for A5200.

Whenever there is a space in either the path or filename, you need to quoted. In your case:
mess a5200 -cart "path\to\montezumas revenge.zip"

just an fyi, this is my command line:

mess.exe a5200 -cart "[rompath]\[name].[romext]"

my FE is wahcade and the rom path is listed in a different line (it is also quoted).

no big deal, i can go a bit without my lovely montezuma's revenge smile

are you saying you can type in the command line (replacing with correct "path\to" and with no FE)

mess a5200 -cart "path\to\montezumas revenge.zip"

and it still doesn't work? If so, what error message are you getting?

right, no FE, just typed the command into a cmnd box as this exactly:

mess.exe a5200 - cart "d:\roms\5200\montezum.zip"

nothing happens, screen goes black as it it's trying to launch but it just stays black. i do see the blue "loading" text for a fraction of a second and then black screen until i quit

if you really typed that exact command line you would get

Error: unknown option: -

but if you attached the - to the cart it really should work unless your bios files are missing, but you'd also get a message like

5200.rom NOT FOUND
ERROR: required files are missing, the system cannot be run.

but try this just in case the error message is just not being shown.

mess.exe a5200 -cart "d:\roms\5200\montezum.zip" -rompath "d:\roms"

if d:\roms is where your a5200.zip bios file is. If other a5200 software IS working then perhaps your montezum.zip has been corrupted?
