I dug out some folder containing copies of more NCR DMV system related information, some of it might already be contained in the manuals I've posted so far, but there is definitely some new information in English.

NCR DMV System Info

I like the way Lord Nightmare implemented the status LED's in the VK100 driver ... it would be great to have the onboard error LED's of the DMV, PC-D and Rainbow like this as well.

The layout was done by Micko; I literally just copied the layout from the vt100 that he did, edited it a little bit, and hooked it to the vk100.

I was able to find some in-depth information on the LK201 keyboard, as well as the DEC mouse used with Windows 1.0 on DEC Rainbow 100 (also on later DEC VAXMates).

Linux people already have a working LK201 and LK401 keyboard, as well as a mouse driver (below, though i can't tell if it's of use) :-)

The DEC hockeypuck mouse (VSXXX-AA and -GA) had a proprietary, 7 pin 'PS/2 style' adapter and had to be plugged into the serial printer port of the DEC Rainbow 100 (via another adapter).

It was in fact a "200 counts per inch" serial mouse (4800 bps, 1 start bit, 8 data bits (LSB first), 1 parity (ODD), 1 stop bit, half-duplex) with a SIGNETICS SCN2661.

There are probably some similarities to Logitech mice (rumours say the Logitech C7 serial mouse for PC could be switched into a DEC compatible mode, at least for AutoCAD, and the DEC VAXMate mouse could be switched into a PC compatible mode via MOUSE.COM and/or MOUSE.SYS).

The mouse has two operating modes, prompt mode and incremental
stream mode. In prompt mode, which is the powerup default, the mouse generates a report in response to a request mouse position command.

In incremental stream mode, whenever the mouse moves it generates a report of that movement. It also reports a change in button position since the last report. No report is generated when the mouse is motionless and no buttons have been changed

The mouse can transmit two reports, a 3-byte position report and a 4-byte self-test report.

D 44H Prompt Mode
R 52H Incremental Stream Mode
P 50H Request Mouse Position
T 54H Invoke Self-test

Information hasn't been the bottleneck on Rainbow, the "there's only one of me" has been ;-)

The DMV driver used to be able to load Teledisk images (they wouldn't boot, but load correctly) through the TAB menu.

They now give the "Error:" message.

mess64 dmv -listmedia shows, that only .mfi disk images are supported.

Where in MESS is the colour of a monochrome display set?

Please note that floppies are still work in progress.

Thing is that conversion for existing file formats to internal representation is still not done for all formats, and that is thing that can be tricky in some moments, but also note that it would make irelevant source format and it could be possible to save file in any file format that support save in future, with old floppy core that was not possible.

Some driver support is now lost due to a conversion to new core, but it should get us better future for sure.

... And I just realized I need to do it again for the vt101/102/131 where the last 4 LEDs have different labels than the standard vt100 (I think the keyboard pcb is the same part though, just has a different overlay sticker on the LEDs? without the 101/102/131 tech manual or MP sheets it is hard to tell...)

Oops, DEC100B emulation in MESS 1.47u3 requires the LK201 keyboard dump now (23-00159-00.bin)

Is the ROM still off-limits for end-users?

I own the machine, but don't want to pry the old keyboard apart frown

On another note, i found some (alas blurry) screenshots of an actual VT101 keyboard here:

Hope this helps.
