I got curious with this one, I've been using both MESS and Toshiya Takeda's emulator (eSCV) for this system. I found eSCV to have the better compatibility with only Pole Position 2 not working and Mappy playing way too fast due to (possibly) timing issues which also happens on MESS. The only problem with eSCV is that it only supports 1 controller, so you can't play 2 player games which is possible in MESS.
Anyway, I was checking progetto-SNAPS screenshots for SCV, here's a link:
http://www.progettosnaps.net/mess_preview/scv.html

And surprisingly I see a screenshot for Pole Position 2, and it's stated that all captures were taken directly from MESS. So my question is how was it possible to capture that screen if the game simply hangs before starting a race? I can see any kind of configuration to change so I wonder how this was done?

Certainly a regression of the driver.

I donīt think it is a real MESS screenshot.

All my images are created exclusively with MESS (preferably with MESSUI), specifically the image of Pole Position 2 was generated with MESS 0.145u8 (May 7 2012).

AntoPISA, how exactly did you make it working? I just tried with .145u8 and still have the same issue. Any chance you could provide me the executable you are using?
I've tried it with several MESS versions and no luck on getting it to run.

I honestly do not remember...
But the executables that use are also those who put it on my website on this page: http://www.progettosnaps.net/mess/messui.html
(I use only the 32-bit version).

I can confirm "ume scv polepos2" launches Pole Position 2 from the Software List and it is fully playable.

I can try a 64-bit build later..

this is using the latest cutting edge code, so it doesn't need some special version

Works fine here too with the softlist version of polepos2 on a 64-bit Linux MESS build.

as an aside, the driver has improved quite a lot since those screenshots were made, might be time to make some new ones :-)

(although something seems wrong with starspdr, it boots to a test mode, looks like the rom was split up at some point, I guess the loading in the softlist is wrong now??)

I feel silly now, it does work with the softlist, I was launching it as scv -cart polepos2.zip and that doesn't work indeed. Never tested using the softlist... Thanks guys.

But out of curiosity is there a way to launch it through CLI without using the softlist? Weird pretty much all the other games work fine launching them like this so why does this one require the softlist?
