I just sent a preliminary list for FM Towns CDs up to the letter A. If it's fine I'll keep adding entries.

BTW, some games seem to boot or not depending on if there are hard disks connected, so if anyone is going to test them, try to disconnect the HDD devices if they don't work.

Well, the FMT softlist is already in good shape, so in my obsession with Japanese computers I was going to start building a PC-98x1 CD-ROM list, which is a very often overlooked aspect of the platform. However, I have one big doubt... how do we handle hybrid discs?

To be more specific, there are a good number of Japanese computer games that can work on some combination of PC-98x1, DOS/V, Windows and FM Towns, all with the same disc; sometimes even all of those platforms at the same time. In thoses cases, would the "acceptable" way to do it be just to duplicate the entries for each softlist? Or is there a more elegant way to do it?

Duplicating the entries seems to be how other softlists do it.

I believe that some softlists are explicitly multiplatform and referenced by different machines, not just by clones of the same machine.

yeah, for the moment we don't have a better mechanism.
just add a comment about the disc being the same as the one of the other list, so that if we find a better solution in the future we can easily spot the dupes wink

pc98_cd for MAME/MESS

I see Win98 on the softlist. Is this the standard Windows 98 or the Windows 98 Second Edition?

Build 2222 A is Windows 98 Second Edition RTM from April 1999 (if that was your question?)

I know this.
Please read my post again.
The question referred to the softlist.

https://github.com/mamedev/mame/blob/master/hash/pc98_cd.xml

or in other words
Which Windows 98 version is in the softlist?

It's the original release (v4.10.1998 if i'm not mistaken). As I said on Github, this is just the stuff I had lying around in my hard drives, so I'm probably missing a ton of Windows versions. If anyone wants to contribute to the list, feel free.
