I'll re-take photos of Bombman, but the one I have now is a little more beat up... smile

Do we have any info on what the classic Casio handhelds used? They all seem to be pretty unique in their own way, but are definitely complex enough that I have to imagine that they're using a proper MCU, and not an ASIC.

@Mr. Do: you wanted a pea-soup LCD for external artwork for one of the HP calculators IIRC?

It should be possible with the recent .lay blend modes, but the drivers need to output the screen in monochrome.
For example, I updated the Ritam Monty driver, and this is the artwork file:

https://github.com/mamedev/mame/blob/master/src/mame/layout/monty.lay
letters are in "lcda" color
background is in "lcda" + "lcdm" color

(I told him that QQQQQQQ is a correct word after he challenged me)

manual here btw, ctrl-F search for ritam

Game & Watch: Popeye (Panorama Screen) has now been preserved in MAME smile

The game features a Sharp SM511 like all other Panorama games and with this game done, the whole Panorama series has been completed.

This is a screenshot from the game:

Scans of the case and LCD inlay can be found in the dropbox dir

Thanks to JustDesserts for lending out the game!

Looking awesome! Did Nintendo censor Popeye's tattoos in-game by blurring them? lmao

Not sure if the tattoo blurring was intentional or not. The tattoos are part of the color inlay and not the LCD display. Perhaps the resolution of the color inlay didn't allow better resolution?

I actually spent a lot of time trying to figure out the tattoo situation. Henrik and I discussed it at some point. I think the example we have has a sloppy silk screen of that layer. It was tough to find good pictures but some looked more defined. For my artwork, I zoomed into the scan as close as possible where you can see the tattoo shape a bit better. I defined them based on what I could see while leaving some of the bleeding. I know some people will object but that's what I felt was the best representation of how it's supposed to look.

We were confused as to why they weren't just part of the LCD. Interestingly, the image on the box doesn't have them at all so it could be a regional thing.
