eientei posted this video link on Discord.
Now, let's not get our hopes up of this ever getting this emulated since it's super rare, but it's cool to know that a G&W Tetris prototype really does exist.

Clamshell model here is JB-63 (safebuster).
From the number of segments used, I'm guessing it's SM512.

and the description there matches that video, talking about the scrolling playfield and clowns

Really cool to see that the rumored G&W Tetris prototype exists! Agree that the likelihood of getting this emulated is small but I'm hopeful that it will eventually be emulated.

Not sure if this video was linked in the previous post:

I'm also guessing on a SM512 which can handle 200 segments, estimating the number of segments used on the Tetris prototype to ~160.

these are the ones with no electronic method to dump the melody ROM still right? If so I think it might be worth doing exhaustive research to see if that really is impossible, or if there's an undocumented method before even considering pursuing anybody with one.

SM511/12 melody rom can be 'dumped' electronically but it's not guaranteed error-free. Hence a bunch of them in MAME are marked bad dump.

I thought they were 'dumped' by studying the waveform, with no guarantee that the internal structure was the same?

So I'd say that wasn't really 'dumped electronically'

It's a best-guess reverse engineering based on the audio and one or two examples that were dumped the hard way.

Which is what I was meaning. If one of these were to be borrowed for dumping, you'd want to make 100% sure you never need it again, so you'd want a proper method.

Although I doubt anybody will be lending them out.

How many are known (or even suspected) to exist? Is there even a chance of one or two more 'out there' that we could even inquire?
I assume they don't really ever come up for sale, considering a lot people didn't seem to know it even existed before today... smile

Who owns the one in the video? If it was someone involved in the development of it, there might be a chance he has source code or other documents... If he's willing to share.
