I tried, but whereas the results with the tweaked 8048 definition as contained in the archive look sensible apart from the issue Haze pointed out, dumping as an 8749 results in a few jumbled bytes and then a padding of uniform bytes (IIRC FF) until the end of the file.

Huh. does your programmer support different manufacturers of the 8749? Some are slightly different timing/pins/etc. try something that matches your device manufacturer first, if you have that option. (i.e. an intel 8049 dump as intel 8749); if that doesn't work try another manufacturer.

Good idea, I'll try that tonight ... and I'll post the garbage if it doesn't work, maybe you can make heads or tails of it.

Andreas Pittini, whose M24 is described here

http://www.z80ne.com/m20/index.php?argument=sections/photos/m24_z8001/m24_z8001.inc

has sent me the BIOS file from his Z8001 card for the M24.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/55419307/Olivetti%20M24/M24APB.zip

In order to be correct, the file would have to be split up into odd/even bytes, as the BIOS is contained in two 2764 EPROMS.

The card is described in detail in the "Theory of operation" manual found here:

I tried dumping the keyboard's 8049 as different 8749s but none of that looks right.

Looks as if this will have to wait until I get another programmer or somebody can step in.

Going back to the M20 driver, while hunting for the ROMs of the M24's Alternate Processor Board, I contacted Andreas, whose M20 is pictured here

http://www.z80ne.com/m20/index.php?argument=sections/photos/andreas_8086/andreas_8086.inc

He kindly sent me the ROM dumps of his 8086 Alternate Processor Board for the M20 ... I found we already have that blush , and some code is present in the driver, but I don't know how to enable it.

The DOS that has been adapted for the M20 can be found - again - on Davide's excellent site.

I don't see any meaningful code for the APB/i8086 side in the driver, just a few trivial stubs.

From this discussion

http://it.comp.retrocomputing.narkive.com/hQocwOvb/pcos-per-olivetti-m20

it's clear that the APB-1086 needs the v2.0d or v2.0f firmware, but these two aren't booting PCOS properly at the moment either ... I get complaints about "Disk Error 04 on Drive 0".

Any idea what disk error 04 means?
