I'm using Romcenter and it says the roms are correct but it keeps failing when I try to load a rom.

Maybe some problem with PATH (environment variable) in WXP?

ZiNc does not use any environment variables for any purpose. However, if you are attempting to use the "roms" directory where the exe is located, the current directory does matter.
WRONG: C:\> emulators\psx\zinc\zinc 1
RIGHT: C:\> cd emulators\psx\zinc C:\emulators\psx\zinc> zinc 1
If the ROMs are on a server or something, it's like this:
Windows: zinc 1 --roms-directory=m:\roms\zinc\
Linux: ./zinc 1 --roms-directory=/server/roms/zinc/
I suspect ZincFE is using the --verify switch to test the ROMs, which is why it's wrong (and that means with 1.0.1 it won't find any ROMs).

That's exactly what I'm doing, I position myself in the Zinc directory, I launch the emulator with the game I choose (in my case "zinc 39", "zinc 47", "zinc 50" or "zinc 63") and it says it cannot find the roms...

Then something is wrong with your ROM files. Either the files inside the ZIP are named incorrectly (zinc --list-sets will give the proper names) or the ZIP file itself is damaged (use the "test" option in whatever zip program you use).

I checked the names - they all correspond. The test option detects no errors. Another thing I'd like to know is: does the inability of ZincFE to detect any game past 26 have anything to do with all of this?

I had the exact same problem last night. I know this sounds quite odd but the way I fixed it was by taking the suspect rom, unzipping it, then re-zipping it again. For some reason ZiNc didn't like the compression format of my current roms. I have no clue as to why but it didn't.
Another small issue I had was having the emulator not reccognize my BIOS files. This was also fixed by re-zipping the files. Go figure...
*You may want to look into this in the next upcoming version of ZiNc.

Yes,I've done the same and it works. This leads to my other problem. Zinc says it cannot open the renderer plugin. I've got WXP with 384 MB RAM and Voodoo 3 3000 16 MB and the glide renderer. In zinc 0.9 it worked. What can it be?

Maybe something to do with WXP. I think that when I used Zinc 0.9 a long time ago wasn't under WXP, it was W98.
