Nononononono, the 256x14 firmware is in the wd1772, the floppy controller. I have no clue what's in the wd1010. It's also not in wd_fdc yet :-)

An external ROM for Write compensation on higher tracks (44 and higher, pic from 'Duell schematics / 100-B') ? Possibly something equivalent on the hard disk controller?

(sorry for the confusion)

That firmware is in the wd1772, the floppy controller. I have no clue what's in the wd1010 (but it may be similar).

PS: and I had already replied. Need more sleep...

The NCR DMV uses either the WD1002 or - seen in my machine with the internal harddisk - the WD1001. It uses a N8X305N CPU, and LN has dumped its ROMs already ... might be a first step.

http://bitsavers.trailing-edge.com/components/signetics/8X3xx/8x305_Users_Manual_Jun82.pdf

Also the 3 roms on the WD1001-05 Rev A11 board from the NCR DMV match three that are on bitsavers, from a different board, the WD1001-85 Rev ?CB?:
http://www.bitsavers.org/pdf/westernDigital/WD100x/WD1001-85/

The three on bitsavers are actually named incorrectly though (they are missing the 62-xxxxxx-xx_xx label but you can see the correct labels in the picture at http://www.bitsavers.org/pdf/westernDigital/WD100x/WD1001-85/WD1001_85.JPG ), the incorrect and correct names are:
WD1001_U40_43a043ee496fd0bff90f6e530dcfd485.BIN should be 62-000019-02_A0.N82S181N_K8335.am27s181.u14.bin
WD1001_U47_8295f9c922fa763021604b211d30cc78.BIN should be 62-000019-01_A0.N82S181N_K8330.am27s181.u15.bin
WD1001_U48_ceca8e273ed0c1dd681eb022304b76c6.BIN should be 62-000019-00_A0.N82S181N_K8339.am27s181.u16.bin

The U locations being different is expected, since the WD1001-85 board layout is very different from the WD1001-05 Rev A11 board which was in the NCR DMV. (Both the WD1001-05 and -85 use a number of custom devices (PALs?) as well, these are not dumped and might need to be decapped if the functionality can't be figured out)

There is also an older WD1001-05 Rev A10 board (with different roms and a signetics 8x300 processor instead of 8x305) at http://www.bitsavers.org/pdf/westernDigital/WD100x/WD1001-05/ as well.

There was a heavily modified Kaypro II on Ebay recently ...

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-po...;nordt=true&rt=nc&orig_cvip=true

There's a " 8" Interface Kaypro 8-84 Max Vers. 2 (c)1985 Micro Cornucopia" ROM shown. I've saved the pictures and put them in an archive on the FTP.
