I tried to look for any hard disk related utilities on the floppies, but couldn't find anything that sounded familiar. More importantly, I'm trying to find the power supply ...

I'm surprised how good the semi-graphics screens look in colour

The accented characters left and right to the "MS-DOS VERSION" in the BASIC86 example could be terminal control characters.
The Umlauts don't show properly, and compared to the VG5000, where the internal char ROM comes from, there are the two right hand pixels missing on the slash

... because the Alphatronic PC 16's running in 80 char width mode?

Still amazing work on a machine for which next to none information exists.

The ef9345 seems to be a pretty decent character generator.

Nope, the datasheet shows the internal 9345 font and it's the same way. The font we have is probably typed in from that as I doubt it's easily dumpable.

If you run it in PC DOS they are [ ] brackets. I suspect it a bios difference but it would have to be tried on real hardware to know for sure.

Ah, thanks!

The homecomputer style Alphatronics usually came with a "dumb" floppy drive stacked on top of the one with the controller - if this doesn't cause you more contortions, could you please enable the second drive, this would help a lot with checking out the disk images, since change detection only works intermittently.

Is there anything I can help with the keyboard assignment?

The z80 firmware supports 4 drives so I put them all there. I filled out the rest of keyboard as best as I can tell. The shift key only affects the number and punctuation not the letter keys, caps and lower case can only be selected by caps lock, I don't see how the emulation could cause that to happen so I can only assume it's correct. The bracket thing is weird, there's two keyboard layouts which can be selected by a port on the 8741. As best as I can tell, the one I've implemented is the one in your pictures. If the other one is selected then the brackets are displayed correctly so I don't know what to do with it.

Thanks again, crazyc!
I just checked - my uploaded folder of pictures just contains hardware photos, and all the screenshots in this thread are from within MAME.
I'll try to get the PC running, then I'll cross check on real hardware.
