Oh joy, Apple calls clang 8 11.0.0 and they call clang 9 11.0.3, so it’s only the patch level in Apple’s version number that distinguishes between major versions of clang. But in src/lib/netlist/plib/ptypes.h Couriersud has only included the major and minor version (no patch level) in the compiler version constant. Can we just say, “Fuck Apple,” at this point? It’s amazingly, boneheadedly developer-hostile to renumber two major compiler versions so they look like they only differ in patch level.

Can we get back to the part where this is only a problem because the netlist library doesn't make any attempt to integrate with MAME even though there are no other known users?

According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xcode#Xcode_11.x_-_13.x_(since_SwiftUI_framework)_2, the same situation happens for clang 10 and 11.

Well, it's been days and I've delayed because I was busy with other things, but I installed macports and the clang-13 port and mame does build again. I'll do a clean build and finally get binaries up ASAP. I'll be honest, I've always disliked macports but brew doesn't offer any compilation related software (I assume it's part of their "philosophy"). I learned that macports is based upon the FreeBSD ports tree, and in the last year, I've a new love for FBSD personally. So I think I'll switch over to using macports for all my local software use. The ports system is my favorite thing about FBSD, so I hope I feel it's done justice on macos.
