I think scanning the actual handhelds and making them available would definitely be a very important thing to do, later on they can be processed and added to MAME with clickable artwork and such, but for now getting proper quality scans while the handhelds are available should be done or it will be a lot harder to do it in the future.
Sean, if you don't have a good enough internet connection you could always do it like the old days and burn a DVD (or a flashdrive) and snail mail it to someone that have a better connection.
JD: That's a great lot indeed! About G&W stuff, I think a good way to get the more expensive/rarer games (Panorama, Tabletop, Super Color, etc.) could be starting a donation pool and then reselling the games after they have been dumped, I mean they sell easily so it shouldn't be hard to at least recover a good portion of the investment. Just not sure about the MCUs used on some of the series and if they can be dumped in a non-destructive way or not.
