I've got some more LCD pics to vectorize if you want to I started on Biker Mice From Mars thinking I could get it done before I left on vacation, but I've spent a few hours on it and still have more work to do! I think I'm cleaning specks that won't cause any problems. I need to figure out how to ID the bad ones, and leave the tiny ones alone.
The first 4 are the same style of games as I've been doing, but Batman The Animated Series (and Biker Mice From Mars) are the larger "girls-style" games. Zorro and Battle Arena Toshinden are RZone games, and Starfox is a watch game.
Unfortunately Zorro had a 2nd chip under the glob, which I'm sure is ROM used for sound effects. I didn't want to deglob any of the games with 2 globs since I can't read the bits visually, but I'm not sure how I'd dump that one anyway, since the traces were under the glob.
I bought 2 Starfox watch games; one has a headphone jack and the other doesn't, but it looks like the LCD panels are the same, and I bet the code in the chip is the same, too. I deglobbed the one with the headphone jack and it has what I think is a Sharp SM530. The ROM is split into 2 sections, so we'll have to experiment to find the right way to transcribe it. Both also have a 2nd glob that looks like a 1K ROM used for melodies. I think it's a Holtek, but haven't found a data sheet. The die says HT3139.
The Starfox display doesn't have many segments, but I looked at a couple of youtube videos, and it looks like I got them all. The SM530 can only do a max of 96 segments (2x48).
I had to make a new PCB for taking pics of LCDs since the pitch on the Starfox panels is a tiny 0.7mm. On the back side I put 0.8mm pads for the rest of the RZone LCD panels.
I need to buy some glass polarizers; the plastic ones scratch too easily. I've used all 8 that I bought already.
Cool! Do you have any of the color filters for the R-Zone? If a game had one, you could get a color background on the tabletop Superscreen version of the system. I'm not sure how many games had them, but I believe I have one for Battle Arena Toshinden. This site has some pictures.
