Keep in mind that the Superscreen can do more than just invert colors. Some carts have a filter you can place over them with background artwork. These will only work on the Superscreen. You have to take them off the cart if you want to switch to another R-Zone model.
Provided there's a good way to invert the screen, the background artwork can be done with external artwork just like the other Tiger handhelds.

I think the main problem is the way these games are loaded since they don't consider the console at all, if there was an actual rzone driver you could load them as "mame rzone rzindy500" or "mame rzonesc rzindy500" and each having a different SVG wouldn't bother me much tbh. I understand why things are done the way they are though just stating it's simple to deal with cases like this where you have multiple consoles compatible with the same cart. This is how you'd deal with it for say stuff like Game Boy.
In the Video Options menu, you can select layout views. Not gonna happen, 2 SVG screens per game is not a good solution. Even if the driver isn't backwards as it is now, you'd still need a separate SVG per RZone model per game, so something like: mame rzone rzindy500 mame rzonesc scindy500
AFAIK SVG screens in MAME don't support the driver screen update callback function, so there's no way to cleanly implement something to invert the colours in the rzone driver itself.
