I've seen pictures of a different board from Maniac, but everything about this one lines up. It looks like they intended for you to actually push the circuit board down to trigger the buttons, and maybe they realized that was a bad idea and redesigned the board a little... Maybe that's why these were dumped. ( And also it appears that the buttons where meant to light up (and maybe they do on some games, not sure, never really played this one)). Or maybe the newer revision was just cutting costs. There's some YT videos, you can confirm the game play maybe.
They also did it with the guts of Simon, I remember seeing stacks of Simon boards in some electronics wholesale places (never knew Radio Shack did this though... )
