Well, the chip on this is dated 1980, and Maniac came out in 79 (or was announced in 79), so it's the right time frame... Are there actually 8 buttons? I just assumed two conacts for one button, and the LEDs would have lit up the white 'Maniac' buttons on the game... Maybe they were working on a sequel to Maniac, or some company just trying to do a knockoff.. Almost seems too similar to be a complete coincidence...
I did notice that the numeric LED isn't a perfect 45 degree angle like a Maniac board would be...
Can't recall any other game with a big two-digit readout in the middle. If it was released, it might have been part of a board game or some other toy as well...
