After some time, I can finally announce that MESS does not crash anymore with large roms like Tales of Phantasia and the translation of DQ3.
moreover, I started to work a bit towards offset-per-tile and other improvements, but the road is still long...
Please report any regression which appears with the new code, so that it can be tracked down immediately.
So far, I only found the menu text in Seiken Densetsu 3 (at character selection) has broken. I hope to be able to fix it soon...
